North Carolina A&T University Visit
Juliana connected with Paula Groves Price, IRT ’95 (below on the right), and prospective students during her visit to North Carolina A&T University this fall.

MMUF and McNair Events
The IRT also attended MMUF and McNair Scholars Conferences this fall including the University of New Mexico McNair Scholars Research Conference, The UNCF/MMUF Conference, and the MMUF Southeast Conference. IRT staff were able to connect with alumni, prospective students, and partners at these events.

IRT at Bryn Mawr College
IRT Associate Director and Manager of Programs, Catherine Wong facilitated an interactive IRT Info Session with Bryn Mawr College on December 4th that was open to the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows (MMUF) and the broader campus community. Joining Catherine were Jennifer Hardford Vargas, PhD, Dorothy Nepper Marshall Professorship and Faculty Coordinator for the MMUF Program, and Karlene Burrell-McRae, EdD, Dean of the Undergraduate College, and Alloyah Aboobi, IRT ’23.

Catherine started the session by asking the students to share their WHY? for pursuing a graduate degree and there was a resounding call to action in their responses from diversifying teachers in the classroom, to using prose, and spoken word to create a culturally responsive curriculum, to being on the forefront of STEM educational policy and program outreach. Catherine was able to link back to the students’ career aspirations and graduate program interests throughout the session. Alloyah was able to further bring IRT to life by sharing how she has specifically benefited from IRT’s advising, mentoring, and programming. Much appreciation to Professor Vargas, Dean Burrell-McRae and Courtney Newkirk, Administrative Assistant for hosting IRT and for their student outreach efforts.

IRT staff and alumni met with prospective students throughout the past few months at the following colleges and universities below. Thank you to IRT alumni, partners, and colleagues for an active and robust recruitment season!
